Step Out of Your Inner Circle
Read: Matthew 5:13-16
Step Outside Your Inner Circle
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
I recently decided that I have not been doing enough spontaneous acts of kindness. I meet needs when confronted with them, but for the most part, have gotten so entangled in my affairs within my inner circle that other’s needs pass me by.
With three troubled children, an internet business, a devotional to write, music and lessons to prepare for church, and babysitting grandchildren, my schedule is full. In all this, I stay pretty close to home and have become oblivious to the needs of the people in my own church.
Just today I learned of a long-time member who has been struggling with depression. Barely able to get out of bed, she’s missed some church—and I didn’t even notice. If I can’t find time to care about those around me, then I am too busy. I’ve decided to make a list of at list three people that I can personally reach out to this week. But I have to do more than decide, I have to act. Only in my actions, will they really believe I care. Have my good works been causing others to glorify the Father? I don’t know, but I am going to make sure of it from now on.
Hot Flash: In order for the world to see my shining light, I must be stepping outside my inner circle and entering into the realm of needy people.
Prayer: Understanding Father, forgive my nearsightedness. Help me to step outside my comfort zone and start meeting the needs of hurting people around me. Amen.
