Day 47: Bathsheba the Redeemed - Devotions for the Menopausal Woman
61
Bathsheba the Redeemed
Read: 2 Samuel 11:1-17
Bathsheba the Redeemed
"And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" (2 Samuel 11:17).
Was Bathsheba the innocent victim touted by good Bible scholars? David sent for her and she came. It doesn't say she begged him not to defile her, or that she refused to come. It appears that she came, a willing participant.
The reputation of the King was widely known. He was not unjust or given to evil tendencies. She most likely could have denied the King access to herself without any grave repercussions. Instead she heeded his lustful call.
Even if she did fear for her life there is the question of honor and integrity. If she was an honorable woman she would have said no regardless the consequence. Death or punishment will not sway a woman of integrity. She failed to the utter core of her being.
We may not have stepped over such boundaries as she, but if you are like me and in the midst of menopause (or not), your failings often reach the dozens (in one day).
God did not cast Bathsheba aside because of her sin, He fully forgave her. Whatever our sins of the past, we are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Completely forgiven!
Today's Hot Flash: Bathsheba attained redemption through the blood of Jesus just as you and I. What a blessing to know He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Prayer: Lord and Redeemer, take my many mistakes and outright sins and use them to get me to where You want me to be. Amen.
